Bethesda, MD – Operation Rescue has learned that a company called Biomedical Waste Services, Inc. is sole provider of medical waste disposal for all thirteen surgical abortion facilities in Maryland. In plain terms, the company provides disposal of aborted baby remains — some as large as 30 weeks or more — for the state’s abortion facilities, including LeRoy Carhart’s late-term abortion facility located in Bethesda, Maryland.
Carhart’s clinic, AbortionClinicsOnline.org (ACO), conducts abortions throughout all nine months of pregnancy with the majority of abortions taking place in the late second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
Biomedical Waste Services collects the human remains for incineration.
The disposal of aborted baby remains has long posed a difficult problem for abortion facilities nationwide. Few businesses want to be associated with abortion businesses, and fewer with the disposal of the babies’ heartbreaking broken bodies. In Maryland, other disposal companies have refused to do business with abortion facilities.
Without a contract with a waste disposal company, all of Maryland’s abortion facilities would be in left without a legal means of disposing of the remains of babies they abort.
Very quickly, that would become an untenable situation, especially at Carhart’s ACO facility in Bethesda where the bodies of late-term aborted babies are very large and difficult to store. This could ultimately force the clinics to shut down.
“Biomedical Waste Services is keeping Carhart and a dozen other abortion businesses open while profiting from the grisly practice of child-killing. The service they provide is so critical to the abortion facility’s continued operation that, if not for them, all thirteen abortion facilities would be out of business in Maryland, including Carhart,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Because these abortion businesses can’t operate without their services, Biomedical Waste Services are just as responsible for the barbaric killing of innocent, viable babies as they are.”
Biomedical Waste Services is headquartered in Baltimore, but serves the following states: Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, according to its website.
“This is a large, family-owned waste disposal company that doesn’t need the abortion businesses. The abortion businesses need them,” said Newman. “Their collaboration with the Abortion Cartel, including Carhart’s late-term abortion facility, must be exposed. We hope this will lead the company to end its relationship with all abortion facilities and create a new policy that prevents it from profiting from the barbaric killing of innocent babies in the future.”
In addition to Carhart’s late-term abortion operation in Bethesda, Biomedical Waste Services picks up aborted baby remains from the following abortion facilities:
• Annapolis Health Center Planned Parenthood.
• Baltimore Health Center Planned Parenthood.
• Gynemed Surgical Center, Baltimore.
• Hillcrest Clinic of Baltimore.
• Whole Women’s Health, Baltimore.
• Carafem, Chevy Chase.
• Metropolitan Family Planning Clinic, Baltimore.
• Hagerstown Reproductive Health Services.
• Femi-Care Surgery Center, Owings Mills.
• Potomac Family Planning, Rockville.
• Silver Spring Family Planning (American Women’s Services).
• Metropolitan Family Planning Clinic, Suitland.
There are also eight abortion facilities in Maryland that offer only abortion drugs. Operation Rescue wants to see Biomedical Waste Services end their business relationships with them as well.
“Abortion is bad for business, and we urge Biomedical Waste Services to end its collaboration with all Maryland abortion facilities, which is, in turn, enabling them to end thousands of innocent lives each year,” said Newman.
TAKE ACTION: Contact Biomedical Waste Services, Inc.
Operation Rescue is asking pro-life supporters to contact Biomedical Waste Services, Inc. and ask that they stop doing business with Maryland’s abortion facilities immediately.
