Norma McCorvey gives her support for SD’s “courageous efforts”
Pierre, South Dakota — The South Dakota State Senate is scheduled to cast an historic vote on Friday on a bill that would ban abortion in that state.
Operation Rescue President Troy Newman and Christian Defense Coalition Director Rev. Patrick Mahoney will hand deliver personal letters on Thursday to each South Dakota State Legislator from Miss Norma McCorvey, expressing her support for HB 1215, the abortion ban, and commending lawmakers’ “courageous efforts” on behalf of the pre-born.
McCorvey is perhaps better known as “Jane Roe” of the infamous 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that decriminalized abortion in America. McCorvey has since converted to Christianity, renounced her pro-abortion beliefs, and is now working to overturn the devastating ruling in which she had been a part.
“We applaud South Dakota for their courageous stand in calling for a end to the tragic killing of innocent children through abortion. With the passage of this ban, South Dakota will send a powerful message to the nation that abortion on demand is quickly coming to an end. America’s attitude on abortion has changed dramatically since 1973 and even newly confirmed Justice Alito would not say that Roe v. Wade was the settled law of the land. The Christian Defense Coalition intends to work with thousands of pro-life activists in every state of the union to pass legislation and regulations that will end abortion, which is a terrible act of violence against women and children. Our hope and
prayer is that many states will soon follow the lead of South Dakota.” -Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director, Christian Defense Coalition
“South Dakota is leading the way in passing legislation that will restore the legal protections of personhood to the pre-born. We believe now is the time to send this kind of bold legislation up through the court system and give the new Supreme Court an opportunity to review it. While some may question the timing or the cost, we submit that it is always the right time to try to spare the innocent, and that the monetary considerations pale in comparison to the devastating loss of life that will continue if we don’t try to stop the killing. We pray for a positive vote on Friday and that Governor Mike Rounds will speedily sign the abortion ban into law.” -Troy Newman, President, Operation Rescue
