Pro-Life Americans Must Give President Trump Our Full Support, Here’s Why
From Operation Rescue President Troy Newman:
Over the last week, many pro-life Americans have expressed a sudden disdain for President Donald Trump – the most pro-life GOP president or nominee in our lifetime. This is not only self-defeating and destructive, but it is also hypocritical when compared to previous presidents and nominees that have had the full support of the pro-life community.
Let’s look at some history:
President Ronald Reagan (1981-1989) nominated Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and Justice Anthony Kennedy. Both were disasters. However, we did get Justice Antonin Scalia.
Don’t forget that, in 1967, as governor of California, Reagan also signed the most liberal abortion law in the country. He gave us little more than a pro-life proclamation, yet we still revere him as the gold standard of conservative presidents.
President George H. W. Bush (1989-1993) was nominally pro-life. He gave us pro-abortion Justice David Souter, but we did also get pro-life Justice Thomas.
President George W. Bush (2001-2009) gave us pro-abortion Justice John Roberts and pro-life Justice Samuel Alito.
So, altogether, these three presidents had less than a 50 percent batting average on SCOTUS, thus prolonging child-killing for decades and allowing millions of babies to be murdered. Yet, all the pro-life organizations faithfully and enthusiastically endorsed all of them.
Now, to our failed nominees:
In 1996, we had pro-abortion Sen. Bob Dole (R-KS) who tried to cut the pro-life plank from the GOP platform and failed. And he was the last openly pro-abortion candidate the GOP has had.
In 2008, we had Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). He never had a pro-life voting record, but the pro-life community thought he walked on water when he was our nominee.
Then, of course, in 2012, we had the untested Gov. Mitt Romney (R-UT), who was formerly pro-abortion. We all see what a pathetic slime bag he has turned out to be. But again, the national pro-life organizations support him with enthusiasm.
I admit that I held my nose and voted for every one of these people – except for Bob Dole.
Now, let’s go back to President Trump:
He hit it out of the park with three pro-life justices! And we finally got what we had been asking for for over 50 years: an overturn of Roe v. Wade.
Additionally, President Trump is the only president in history to take money away from Planned Parenthood.
President Trump‘s recent statement on abortion is certainly no worse than all the aforementioned former presidents and the GOP’s nominees. It also echoes the position of many statewide and national pro-life organizations.
The pro-life betrayal of Trump seems to lack reason. Why is he held to a higher standard than anyone else when he has done more for us than any other President in history? The attacks on him make it look like pro-lifers are more concerned with getting their own way than they are with saving the lives of children and saving our nation.
Some are standing on a soapbox and declaring our job is to reach people for Jesus, to “change hearts and minds.” That sounds exactly like the pathetic and spineless pastors in our country who refuse to get involved in politics.
In November, we have two choices. We can choose more tyranny and radical abortion policies or we can seize the opportunity to save our Republic. The time for equivocation and naysaying is over. It’s time to take a stand. If we are ever to defeat the “demon-crats,” Joe Biden, and the communists, there is only one path in November, and that is through Donald J. Trump!
Together, let’s make America pro-life again!
