Disciplinary case could affect heinous third-trimester abortions nationwide
Listen to the actual 911 Call
Albuquerque, NM – The Albuquerque Journal published two major articles on page A-1 of their Sunday Edition discussing the disciplinary case against Shelley Sella that involved a botched third-trimester abortion that resulted in a ruptured uterus in a woman with a history of a previous Cesarean Section. Operation Rescue’s Cheryl Sullenger was interviewed for the articles.
“This article will certainly raise awareness of third-trimester abortions and their dangers in the community and around the nation,” said Sullenger. “The more people learn about these horrific abortions in the latest stages of pregnancy, the more public opinion turns against them.”
The case came to light after Tara Shaver of Project Defending Life obtained 911 call recordings placed by Southwestern Women’s Options, the late-term abortion clinic where Sella does abortions though all trimesters. Shaver and Sullenger both filed complaints with the New Mexico Medical Board based on information in the 911 call. The case could impact third trimester abortions nationally and has the possibility of ending these dangerous late-term abortion procedures in outpatient clinics. This could essentially end the practice of third trimester abortion in America.
After an investigation and a two-day disciplinary hearing, the Board’s prosecutor, Daniel Rubin, has recommended that Sella be disciplined for “gross negligence” for violating the standard of care by conducting a high risk labor and delivery in a clinic setting while overusing uterine stimulants without proper supervision. A Decision and Order is expected to be issued by the full Board on Thursday, February 7, 2013.
