Albuquerque, NM – Abortion Free New Mexico has learned that abortionist Carmen Landau, the primary late-term abortionist at Southwestern Women’s Options, was found dead “suddenly and unexpectedly” in her hotel room in Puerto Rico on October 14, 2022. Landau was attending the National Harm Reduction Conference, which promotes drug use by providing syringes and naloxone to users. She served as the medical director of the event.
Tara Shaver, Spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico, issued the following statement:
“For several years Abortion Free New Mexico has prayed for abortionist Carmen Landau, that she would walk away from the abortion industry and ultimately see the humanity of both women and their unborn children. It is our hope that before her passing she turned to the Lord Jesus Christ. Our prayers continue for her family that they will find comfort and healing during this difficult time.”
Abortion Free New Mexico has also discovered that prior to her sudden death, Landau was working with local abortionists to open a new abortion clinic in Albuquerque called, Valley Abortion Group.
With a focus on “comprehensive abortion care often later in pregnancy” the stated aim of the Valley Abortion Group abortionists, is to accommodate the “many new providers [that] have come from out-of-state and are focused on caring for patients from out-of-state, while Valley Abortion Group maintains our commitment to patients from New Mexico by accepting local payers, such as Medicaid, and working with local organizations to increase access for patients from rural and tribal areas.”
According to the New Mexico Secretary of State’s website the Valley Abortion Group LLC was formed on August 17, 2022.
Landau’s cohorts are using her unexpected death to keep this effort going and are actively raising funds through a crowdfunding site. Their goal is $100,000. It is uncertain if their plans to open a new late-term abortion clinic in Albuquerque will succeed.
