Texas Medical Board Director Forced OUT After Being Exposed as Planned Parenthood Employee
By Anne Reed
Austin, Texas – Robert Bredt, medical director of the Texas Medical Board (TMB), the state agency responsible for ensuring ethical standards and quality care in medicine, was forced out after the discovery of a blatantly unethical conflict of interest.
After it was made public that Bredt worked for a Planned Parenthood-affiliated lab while fulfilling his role as the Texas Medical Board Director, Operation Rescue’s legal counsel, State Rep. Briscoe Cain (R-TX) demanded the “immediate termination” of Bredt. Following a December 30 letter, 62-year-old Bredt escaped being fired by submitting retirement paperwork on January 7.
Bredt had been employed in this public capacity since 2012, earning $185,000 annually. According to his resumé, he was working for Planned Parenthood South Texas in 2011 — even before he began fulfilling his public role with the state licensing board.
“This presents a shocking ethical conflict,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “And it explains why Operation Rescue’s complaints against shoddy abortion facilities and dangerously irresponsible abortionists in the state of Texas have fallen flat for more than a decade.”
Cheryl Sullenger, Operation Rescue Senior Vice President Emeritus, recalled, “We submitted a number of complaints to the Texas Medical Board, which at first seemed interested in pursuing them, but then suddenly stopped and dropped almost everything. They gave no attention to the allegations that abortionist and sexual predator Doug Karpen was murdering babies born alive during abortions by twisting their heads off – even though four clinic workers came forward and were eyewitnesses and even photographed one of the victims.”
Karpen is still licensed in the state of Texas to this day.
Unlikely Discovery
Ironically, Bredt’s glaring misconduct was discovered during a case involving a complaint filed by the Texas Medical Board against another Texas doctor’s use of Ivermectin to treat and save COVID patients. A motion filed in that case introduced Bredt as an expert witness and included his resumé that detailed his 13-year employment with Planned Parenthood.
The day after Cain demanded the corrupt medical director’s termination, State Rep. Brian Harrison (TX-R), a frequent critic of the medical board, posted Bredt’s resumé on X and sent a letter to Gov. Abbott (TX-R) informing him of the bias risk. He threatened to file legislation to defund the medical board if Bredt was not terminated.
Harrison further suggested Abbott direct all state agencies to ensure state employees do not work for Planned Parenthood, creating similar conflicts of interest. Harrison said Wednesday, after Bredt had submitted his retirement paperwork, that an investigation into the medical board and the executive branch’s hiring practices is in order. He further stated that he may still push a bill to defund the board itself.
Texas Actions
Texas has already legislatively protected unborn children from being murdered at the hands of abortionists and removed Planned Parenthood affiliates from its state Medicaid program. The state has also filed a $1.8 billion lawsuit against the abortion giant for $10 million of alleged fraudulent Medicaid claims.
“Since Bredt worked for Planned Parenthood before he was hired by the medical board in 2012, it is certainly difficult to believe the state-funded agency was not aware of this blatant ethical breach,” said Newman. “I’m grateful for the work of Cain, Harrison, Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), and others in Texas who are working to clean up the swamp in the Lone Star State. I hope to see other states take note and do likewise.”
