PRESS RELEASE
Wichita, KS – The landscape of abortion in the U.S. has shifted dramatically since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and its companion cases on June 24, 2022.
It is more important than ever, in a post-Roe environment, to keep Americans informed about the methods abortionists are using to secure the greatest profits possible – all off the backs of murdered babies and wounded moms. It is vital that changes are tracked, understood, and clearly communicated concerning efforts of pro-abortion politicians and others to avoid and block state laws, and institute other mechanisms to guarantee unfettered access to abortion on demand.
Operation Rescue takes this call more seriously than ever.
Operation Rescue continues its frontline work of exposing the truth about the abortion cartel, documenting the extreme dangers posed by abortionists all over the country, and showing the American people those findings. Countless abortion clinics have been closed over the years because of this behind-the-scenes investigative work.
When considering Roe’s overturn, Operation Rescue recognized the increased significance of securing first-hand, investigative data that truly captured the truth about the rapidly-changing abortion industry landscape and began planning for its annual survey. By the time the 2022 survey was conducted in October and November, 14 states had become abortion free, while seven other states were defending abortion bans in court.
At the close of the survey, a whopping 88 abortion facilities had halted abortions or closed their doors completely.
The 683 other abortion facilities that continued to operate in 36 states and the District of Columbia represented a remarkable 68 percent reduction in the U.S. since 1991 when there were 2,176 abortion businesses in operation.
“We celebrate the lives saved because of Roe v. Wade’s overturn, closed clinics, and legislation intended to greatly reduce abortion or make state’s completely abortion free,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Pro-lifers must continue to be prayerful, bold, and wise in our efforts to protect innocent babies from abortion, especially as the insane push for risky chemical abortions intensifies.”
Clinics are increasingly dropping surgical abortions and resorting solely to chemical abortions – a much more profitable avenue for abortionists but dangerous for the mothers who are led to believe the process is simple, pain-free, and safe. And virtual (mail-only) clinics are even more dangerous than clinics that distribute the pills in person.
In Operation Rescue’s exclusive investigation, it found that abortionists charge, on average, nearly the same for a chemical abortion as a surgical abortion.
Data is included from every abortion facility in the U.S., including abortion costs, wait times for surgical and chemical abortions, as well as gestational age limits, telemedicine availability, etc. Operation Rescue uncovered an overall picture that looked significantly different from common mainstream media talking points.
This data is analyzed alongside years of data collected by Operation Rescue to identify emerging trends and developments.
