Topeka, KS – Today the Kansas House of Representatives voted 86-35 to override Gov. Mark Parkinson’s veto of reporting regulations that will add a layer of accountability to late-term abortionist by requiring them to report the specific diagnosis used to justify post viability abortions. Four House members abstained from the vote.
This pro-life victory sends the bill on to the Senate where 27 votes are needed to successfully complete the override. The Senate passed HB 2115, which had wide popular support, by a margin of 24-15, three votes shy of the two-thirds majority needed to override.
“We want to thank everyone who called their representatives after the first veto override attempt failed, and especially Rep. Lance Kinzer, who skillfully guided this common-sense law through the House,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
“A vote against override is a vote for illegal abortions. So far we have been able to keep late-term abortions out of Kansas, but if the veto override fails, it will be like sending an engraved invitation to abortionists that late-term abortions for any reason at all are welcome in Kansas.
“We ask that every Kansan possible contact their state senator and demand that they override Parkinson’s veto on HB 2115. If you do not live in Kansas, please pray that the override effort will succeed.”
