UPDATE: The Senate held the vote on cloture at 1 AM on Monday morning. The vote was 60 to 40 in favor of cloture and included Sen. Ben Nelson’s aye vote. Remember, a vote for cloture was a vote for abortion. A final vote on the Senate version of the bill is expected to pass it with a simple majority during a scheduled Christmas Eve vote.
But the fight to keep tax-funded abortion out of our nation’s health care is not over. Rep. Bart Stupak has indicated that he believes he has the votes necessary to block the abortion funding that is in the Senate version.
Please keep those calls to your Senators and Representatives going!
Washington, DC– Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson caved to pressure Saturday when he announced that he would be voting in favor of the Senate version of the health care bill that contains funding for abortion.
Nelson agreed to a deal that would exempt Nebraska from certain taxes.
“It is deplorabe that Nelson has sold out the lives of innocent children for political gain. Nelson proved that he is not a man of his word and that his vote was indeed for sale,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
The Senate has scheduled a vote for 1 AM Monday morning.
“The Democrats are literally attempting to ramrod a life-altering bill down our throats under the cover of darkness when most people are ironically preoccupied with family and Christmas planning,” said Newman. “You know they are trying to pull a fast one on the American people when they start employing such underhanded tactics.”
Operation Rescue urges Americans to continue to contact their Senators to voice opposition to the Reid-Nelson abortion funding scheme.
