Austin, TX – Texas was cleared by the state Supreme Court last month to enforce its 1925 abortion ban. On August 25, the state’s 2021 trigger law is also set to take effect, protecting human lives from the moment of fertilization, with an exception to save the mother from death or major bodily impairment.
Many Texas abortion facilities have already closed. However, Austin Women’s Health Center (AWHC), also known as Brookside Women’s Medical Center, is among those still hanging on – apparently at the expense of its patients. This spring, as the overturn of Roe became increasingly imminent, threatening to bring AWHC’s abortion profits to an end, the clinic became particularly reckless.
A friend of Operation Rescue recently reported emergency medical vehicles in the facility’s parking lot. On the first occasion, she was praying on the sidewalk, and she later caught a glimpse of an emergency vehicle in the parking lot while driving by the facility. Many courageous, compassionate pro-lifers across the country spend countless hours on sidewalks offering help to the victims of abortion clinics, but individuals simply passing by while going about their daily activities can also capture what is needed to investigate an emergency. As we consider the coincidental nature of passerby observations, we can only wonder how many tragic medical emergencies were never documented by concerned observers outside the abortion business.
We secured 911 records for both medical emergencies.
On March 1, 2022, at 1:38 p.m., AWHC called 911 after a 28-year-old woman had undergone a surgical abortion. The staff was “unable to manage” the woman’s severe pain, identified in the CAD transcript as level 10 out of 10 – the worst pain imaginable.
She was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas, a Level 1 Trauma Center, for emergency follow-up treatment.
On May 5, 2022, at 10:52 a.m., AWHC called 911 again after a 25-year-old, still-pregnant woman experienced a sudden and unexpected change in her condition, was lethargic, in and out of awareness, and experiencing hyperemesis (severe and prolonged vomiting). See CAD transcript.
We do not know what “treatment” this young woman received before she experienced the sudden change in her condition. Like the previously injured woman, she was transferred to Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas for emergency treatment.

Shortly after these emergencies, on June 20, 2022, the Austin City Council passed a resolution to decriminalize abortion within its city limits. It is yet to be seen how this type of resolution to deprioritize violations of state law will play out.
The state of Texas has been a leader in bringing an end to legal child killing,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We look forward to seeing its trigger law go into effect later this month and abortionists being held accountable for their grievous sin against humanity. We long for the day that this facility and every abortion business in the state is closed for good.”
