Anti-Roberts ad falsely accuses OR of abortion clinic violence
Washington, DC — Operation Rescue is calling a NARAL ad linking Supreme Court nominee John Roberts to abortion clinic violence “a pack of lies.”
NARAL’s press release announcing the ads states, “…the brief he [Roberts] filed siding with groups like Operation Rescue and other anti-choice extremists who use bombings and other forms of intimidation against women, doctors, and nurses at women’s health clinics.”
Operation Rescue responds:
Operation Rescue has an impeccable record of peaceful pro-life activism. Since the mid-1980’s there have been well over 70,000 arrests for peaceful civil disobedience in the fine tradition of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. There has never been a conviction of a violent act by a pro-life supporter at any Operation Rescue event in the history of the organization.
The NARAL ad hypocritically and falsely displays Emily Lyons as an example of someone injured by actions such as those defended by Judge Roberts in Bray v. Alexandria Women’s Health Clinic. In fact, Lyons’ injuries occurred a full 7 years after Judge Roberts argued the case, which had absolutely nothing to do with abortion clinic bombings such as the one that injured Ms. Lyons.
“NARAL’s ad is little more than a pack of lies,” said OR President Troy Newman. “They hypocritically complain about violence while they are in part responsible for the brutal dismemberment deaths of over three thousand innocent pre-born children every day through abortion in our nation.”
“NARAL has no moral standing whatsoever to complain about violence when the only way they seem to know how to deal with life’s problems is through the violence of abortion,” said Operation Rescue sidewalk counselor Brenna Sullenger. “Their vain attempt to vilify Judge Roberts in this matter falls flat to those of us who peacefully offer practical assistance to pregnant women every day — assistance that does not include a dead child.”
